From the Desk of GIL Press

This desk is where the quiet work happens —
ink smudged by prayer, pages turned by conviction, truth edited until it breathes.
What begins in silence finds its way to you, word by word.

FORMED IN QUIET. RELEASED IN PEACE.
Before there was a book.
________________________________________
Putting pencil to paper started as a way to escape my trauma-filled childhood home.
It was a release — a place to put what couldn’t be explained or understood.
Whatever thoughts showed up got put on paper —
not clean pages, just scraps, the backs of things, whatever was left —
in uneven block letters or shaky cursive.
They take me back to a fond memory of my oldest sister sitting with me, teaching me how to read and write.
Most of the time, the writing happened under the bed.
That was the safest place I knew.
Low enough to be out of sight.
Still close enough to hear everything.
The reading and the writing let my mind go to more peaceful places.

As the years passed, the writing came with me.
Different houses. Different rooms. Different rules.
Foster care. Teenage years. Pregnancy. Marriage. Life happening fast.
But the habit stayed the same — grabbing whatever paper was around and getting the thoughts out.
Some seasons were full of pages.
Some barely had a sentence.
But the pencil was never too far away.
And somewhere in there, I graduated to a pen.
Found out the hard way that pencil fades.

The writing wasn’t just an outlet anymore.
It became a way to talk to God.
The tone shifted.
The writing became more conversational, more instructional, more revelatory.
He was speaking back.
________________________________________
The release was natural — just the next step in my journey.
With bright sunshine pouring through large open windows, and lush green leaves waving their steady greeting of renewed life, the space around me was warm, welcoming, and peaceful.
It was simply the next step — and I recognized it.
I can fly now.
I can flow freely.
